On February 15th, the Norwegian Competition Authority approved ScaleAQ’s acquisition of Maskon, which will continue as an independent company in ScaleAQ. This continuation will allow Maskon to maintain its strong drive for innovation and product development, while benefitting from being part of a larger environment of professional expertise.
This is a strategically important acquisition for ScaleAQ
— The acquisition strengthens our position as a complete supplier of critical infrastructure to the aquaculture industry. We will now be represented by the technology of the future throughout the value chain, from roe to harvest, says Geir Myklebust, CEO of ScaleAQ.
— Being a part of ScaleAQ will strengthen Maskon’s presence in many countries and contribute to growth and development. Our digital solutions will make a great addition to ScaleAQ’s sophisticated systems for data capture and operational information for clients, says Morten Kristoffer Nordstad, the next chair of Maskon AS.
New chair of Maskon AS
Morten Kristoffer Nordstad will be the new chair of Maskon AS. Nordstad has held several executive positions in the vaccine industry, first as production manager for fish vaccines, and then from 2004 to 2021 as Senior Vice President of the vaccine company Pharmaq AS.
His experience will serve him well as he becomes the new chair of the Stjørdal-based company Maskon. The company (est. 1991) is a global market leader in fully automatic fish-vaccination machines. The company sold its first roe-sorting machine in 2006, and its first automatic vaccination machine to SalMar in 2011.
Nordstad enjoys working with companies that are highly ambitious, both in Norway and internationally, and did not hesitate when he was asked to take on the role as chair of the company’s board.
A strategically important acquisition
According to Nordstad, the Norwegian aquaculture industry is at the forefront when it comes to employing sophisticated fish-vaccination technology. He believes that Maskon, a market leader in vaccination machines in Norway, has great potential in many other fish-producing countries.
Maskon also has several other interesting technology projects for the aquaculture industry in development, which will be launched in the market in the coming years. ScaleAQ and Maskon have ambitions to retain Norway’s leading position as a global supplier to the aquaculture industry.
This is a strategically important acquisition for ScaleAQ that unites a sound, diverse environment of professional expertise within the aquaculture supplier industry.
Morten Kristoffer Nordstad will be the new chair of Maskon AS. He brings with him more than 25 years’ experience from the biopharmaceutical industry, including from Pharmaq AS.
