What Does Repurposing Involve?
The repurposing program entails repurposing plastic components such as floating pipes, handrails, and walkways in the production of new floating collars. The load-bearing system and wear parts, including steel clamps, bracing systems, and other steel components, are replaced with new and improved versions across the entire floating collar. The renewed floating collar is delivered with a product certificate and a design lifespan of 20 years, in accordance with NS 9415:2021 and NYTEK23. Additionally, the floating collar can be adapted to modern pen configurations and additional equipment.
Our Repurposing Process:
- Request from the fish farmer: The fish farmer contacts us to initiate the process.
- Documentation collection: We gather available documentation and historical condition records of the floating collar.
- Project planning: In collaboration with the fish farmer, we design a new floating collar type tailored to current configuration needs and additional equipment.
- Transport: The floating collar is transported to ScaleAQ’s land base for further processing.
- Dismantling and inspection: The floating collar is brought ashore, dismantled, and subjected to thorough inspections and necessary repairs.
- Production of the new floating collar: A new floating collar is assembled by repurposing plastic components in good condition while replacing steel components with the latest, improved versions offering enhanced quality, strength, and functionality.
- Return: The floating collar is returned to the fish farmer with a new product certificate in compliance with NYTEK23 and a design lifespan of 20 years.

A Smart Choice for the Future
We encourage all our customers to consider repurposing floating collars before purchasing new ones. Repurposing helps keep plastic in circulation longer, reduces waste, and has a positive impact on CO₂ emissions by reducing the need for virgin plastic production. Additionally, it is a cost-effective solution, especially in light of today’s high raw material prices.
Together, we can make the aquaculture industry more sustainable!
