First fish in the Subsea System

Monday, May 27, 2024 marked an important milestone in the development of our Subsea System. For the first time, fish were stocked into the pen, and the pen was submerged. Surveillance cameras in the pen confirm that the fish have adapted well to their new environment, finding their way to the surface dome and displaying a healthy appetite.

Crystal-clear images from our latest camera, the Orbit FHD, the market’s most light-sensitive feeding camera. Due to its dynamic bandwidth, it uses on average half the bandwidth of previous cameras during normal use, despite higher resolution. New sensor technology with a calibration-free depth sensor, and the possibility of oxygen and salinity sensors.

Reaching this milestone in the Subsea project is a fantastic achievement, and it is the result of tremendous teamwork and the broad interdisciplinary expertise at ScaleAQ.

The history of Subsea began back in 2015 for ScaleAQ in connection with the announcement of development permits. The solutions that are now in operation share many similarities with the solution presented at that time. Since then, we have conducted thorough analyses, testing in marine tanks, testing in the sea without fish, and finally testing with fish.

Most of the components in the Subsea system are existing ScaleAQ products that have been developed and tested over a long period, providing extra confidence in the system.

Customer feedback is extremely positive, and they have great confidence in the solution. This is reflected in their decision to increase the number of fish in the submerged facility compared to other pens, with nearly 200,000 fish stocked.

Collaboration and implementation

Collaboration with customers is always crucial for all our development projects and has been vital for the development of our Subsea System. We are grateful for the trust our customers have shown us. We are committed to working closely with customers throughout the process and after implementation to ensure a positive experience and promote mutual learning in operations.

Deep-sea farming is a complex operational method that is still undergoing significant development. ScaleAQ has positioned itself as a total supplier of technology, equipment, and services that encompass a comprehensive concept for deep-sea farming.

ScaleAQ has a significant and growing number of units entering the market, with an unwavering focus on safety, profitability, and sustainable operations.
